French engraver Bernard Picart’s “Ceremonies et Coutumes Religieuses” is one of the most important, if not the most important 18^th-century work on the religious customs of the people of the world. First published in 1723, “Picard” (as this work is often referred to) not only illustrates religious customs but also rituals, church services, prayers, funeral processions and preparations, sacraments, altars, and papal jubilees from around the world.
