Peter Heylyn’s ‘Cyprianus Anglicus’ is a strong defense of William Laud against William Prynne’s ‘Canterburies Doome.’ Prynne was highly critical of Laud. Even though King Charles I admitted that he put too much trust in Laud, and Laud’s actions helped create divisions in the Church, Heylyn still came to the defense of Laud.

Most known for his “Cosmographia,” Peter Heylin writes this defense of Laud against Prynne’s and Laud’s execution. This account of Laud’s life and work depicts Laud’s attempt to enforce conformity within the Church of England, but the King’s decrees and commands did little to help the church, in fact, it created more of a divide. This work serves as a defense not only for Laud, but for the King’s actions and policies as well.
