Jean Claude was a 17^th-century Protestant pastor who was exiled from France in 1685. Shortly after he arrived in Holland, he wrote ‘Complaints of the Protestant Cruel Oppression’. It was written with the sole purposes of attacking the oppression of protestants in France. Curiously, it was banned throughout France and the English translation didn’t fare much better in London – copies were seized and burned!
