1698 Scottish LAW 1ed Dirleton Doubts & Questions Scotland Political Nisbet
John Nisbet, Lord of Dirleton was a 17th-century Scottish judge who is best known for his role in the persecution of Scottish covenanters. He also published a book of his perspective, or ‘doubts’, on many of the laws of Scotland. This ‘Doubts & Questions in the Law’ discussed the implementation of Scottish laws, many dealing with treason, taxation, trial witnesses, and even punishments.
These law commentaries are collectively known as ‘Dirleton’s Doubts’ – the ultimately companion book to law students in Scotland in the early 18th-century.
