Saint Venerable Bede was an English monk during the 7^th– and 8^th-centuries. He is most remembered for his ecclesiastical work on the history of English people, in which he discusses the establishment and growth of the church throughout the known world. However, he did not write exclusively of church theology.

This 17^th-century printing of Bede’s works includes his ‘Commentary on Genesis’, his dialogues with his pupil Egbert of York, his encomium of Saint Aldhelm and Aldhelm’s own ‘Laude Virginitatis’. This treatise was a famous work to nuns on the importance of keeping one’s virginity.

This 1693 London edition was edited by Henry Wharton and Sir James.
