1629 Laus Asini by Daniel Heinsius Golden Ass Parody Humor Elzevier Latin
Most known for his editions of classical scholars, Daniel Heinsius, wrote a curious collection of spoof essays in which he did not even sign his own name. Published as ‘Laus Asini’, this work parodied scholarly studies, but because of the humor in this work and the well-written nature of the essays, ‘Laus Asini’ was highly popular, and the anonymity of the work was quickly abandoned.
This 1629 Elzevier edition still lacks the Heinsius authorship and is a notably valuable and desirable edition. Authorship confirmed by Willems and Goldsmid.
