1581 Epistolarum Paulus Manutius Venetian Humanism Philosophy Aldine Cicero 2v
The name Manutius has long been associated with 16th-century printing, much in part to Aldo Manutius and his Aldine Press. His son Paulus was, too, an important Venetian printer but also a well-respected man of letters in his own right. In 1540 he edited and corrected the famous Cicero letters, which inspired him to write his own. Paulus’s ‘Epistolarum’ were written in the style of Cicero, written to notable figures in Naples, Florence, and Rome, as well as Parma, Lyon, and Mantua.
This 1581 two-volume set was dedicated to Giacomo Boncompagni, a 15th-century feudal lord.
