1787 Scottish Bellenden De Statu Libri Tres Classical LAW Edmund Burke Parr Fox
William Bellenden was an early 17th-century Scottish scholar known for his studies on Cicero, Roman Law and Senate, and general classical history. He published three works over the course of the first few years of the 17th-century, all of which were published under the title ‘De Statu Libri Tres’. While this work was first published in 1615, it didn’t gain its popularity until 1787 when Samuel Parr published a Latin edition known for its elegant style.
The controversial preface of this edition by Parr became a political tract supporting the political views of Edmund Burke, Charles Fox, and Frederick North.
