1728 Huguenot BIBLE Psalms of David Beza & Clement Marot French Music Chant
Theodore Beza was one of the most prolific French Protestants during the Reformation. His biblical translations were extremely important and popular throughout Europe, especially among Calvinists. They helped shape many theological scholars who came after him. In 1544, John Calvin asked Beza to complete a collection of the Psalms of David, metered, and translated into French.
Each Psalm in this 1728 printing of the ‘Pseaumes de David’ is set to music in the form of chant and features the French texts of both Beza and 16th-century Renaissance poet Clement Marot.
