A rare, 17^th century Japanese woodblock print of “Sanpouketsugishou” written by Isomura Yoshinori, a mathematician. Isomura was called ‘the master of the abacus’ because he solved problems that would otherwise not be possible without using algebra, and the abacus features in many illustrations as does his interest in ‘magic squares, magic circles and magic wheels.’ This book contains solutions to 12 problems published in an earlier work and provides 150 more.

This rare edition is written in the typical handwritten column format bound in the “fukurotoji” style (Keio) complete with illustrations of mathematic problems, shapes, diagrams, and people and animals using an abacus throughout!
