Cornelius Jansen was an early 17th-century bishop from Flanders known for his involvement in the movement known as Jansenism. He wrote numerous biblical commentaries including “Commentary on Proverbs of Solomon”. First published in 1567, Jansen’s ‘Proverbs’ is a chapter-by-chapter commentary on Proverbs based on the original Hebrew text with comparisons to the book of Song of Solomon.
This particular 1586 edition of Jansen’s Proverbs commentary is considerably rare – in fact, according to the USTC, only five examples are known to exist in institutions worldwide!
