Philippe Chifflet wrote one of the most famous and important treaties on the Council of Trent in 1640. It saw reprints in various languages for over 100 years after its inception. Chifflet sought to bring clarity and understanding to Europe’s attempts at Protestant reforms, consequently, Chifflet’s books were placed on the Prohibited Books Index by the Catholic Church. This late 17th-century printing was published by Ferrand in Rouen, France, who included a printing of the Prohibited Books Index at the end.
