Louise Saunders, wife of editor Max Perkins, editor of Scribner’s publishing, teamed with one of the most popular illustrators, Maxwell Perkins to create this unforgettable fable. Parrish worked for three years on the paintings for ‘Knave of Hearts.’ He built an elaborate castle model in his workroom for the illustrations of the book.
