Nicolo Giannettasio was a 17^th-century Jesuit Italian scholar and writer known both for his works of theology and Italian literature. While teaching in Palermo and Naples, Giannettasio wrote his first work “Piscatoria and Nautica” – a narrative poem on fishing and seafaring. According to Ceresoli, this work

“the best 17^th-century poem on fishing, including that of corals. It is also important for the terminology of fish and other aquatic animals”.
