Castore Durante was a 16^th-century Italian scholar who is best-remembered for his major work “Hebrario Nuovo”. This work, which was first published in 1585, is a collection of descriptions of plants and their medical uses and healing properties. The plants detailed in this work were from Europe and the East and West Indies with information on how to identify them in their indigenous environment. According to Hunt,

“This was a popular Italian herbal that was reprinted in Italian, and translated and published in several other languages, for a number of years. The plant descriptions are written in the form of poems which Arber describes as ‘pleasingly unscientific”
