1885 General George Custer 1ed Boots and Saddles Cavalry Illustrated Indians
“There are not enough Indians in the world to defeat the Seventh Cavalry”
– General George Custer
‘Boots and Saddles’ is a famous work on the life and military career of General George Custer, written by his wife, Elizabeth Custer.
The honeymoon of Elizabeth Bacon and George Armstrong Custer was interrupted in 1864 by his call to duty with the Army of the Potomac. She begged to be allowed to go along, thus setting the pattern of her future life. From that time on, she accompanied General Custer on all his major assignments, aside from the summer Indian campaigns—”the only woman,” she said, “who always rode with the regiment.”
This 1885 printing was the first to include the portrait in addition to the expected contents of Native American Indians, Sioux and Dakota tribes, the Black Hills Expedition, the U.S. Army and Cavalry.
