It primarily deals with the West Indies and the Caribbean islands with numerous illustrations that Labat himself illustrated.
Many of these illustrations in this first edition are large folding maps; maps of the Caribbean Sea and individual islands such as Isle of Martinique. Other illustrations depict natives, architecture, tools, and scenery. Very impressive and highly desirable first edition!
