1899 Jules Verne 1ed Will of an Eccentric Extraordinary Voyages French Hetzel
“Reality provides us with facts so romantic that imagination itself could add nothing to them.”
― Jules Verne
Jules Verne’s adventure novels are some of the most popular and famous works of literature of all time. Known mostly for his works of science fiction, ‘Voyages Extraordinaires’ was Verne’s largest collection of fantasy novels and stories. One of the lesser-known works from this set was “The Will of an Eccentric” – a mystery tale of an American millionaire leaving his fortune to the winner of the ‘Noble Games’.
Note on dating: like many other Verne first editions, the title page included was issued in each edition, including later printings. This particular 1899 first edition, part of the ‘Hetzel Collection’, features an illustrated front cover – a highly desirable edition! The ads note “1899” on page 5 of ads, printed the same year as Verne finished writing it.
