Cadmus M. Wilcox was a 19^th-century American military officer who served as a Confederate general during the Civil War. It was, however, his rifleman manual that proved to be one of his most important contributions to the American military. Following his role in the Mexican-American war, Wilcox was promoted and went back to West Port to instruct military tactics. He wrote “Rifles and Rifle Practice” to aid in his instruction – a work filled with illustrations depicting troop movements, weapons and ammunition, firing mechanisms, and much more.
