George Pickett was one of the most iconic and well-known officers of the Confederate Army during the Civil War. His fame rests most prominently from his famous “Picket’s Charge”, in which Pickett led an assault on Union forces on the third day of the Battle of Gettysburg.

Following Pickett’s death in 1875, his wife LaSalle went on to attempt to showcase her late husband in a romanticized fashion. She did so, in part, with her 1899 biographical sketch of his life, “Pickett and His Men” in which she describes in roles in the Civil War, with an extensive section focused on each day of the Battle of Gettysburg.
