Saint Ambrose, Bishop of Milan, is the most important ecclesiastical father of the 4^th-century and has continually been an influence both in Milan and throughout the Western world even though he has been associated with persecutions of non-Christians.

Most of surviving writings are exegetical in nature; letters and essays in which he writes on faith, offices of the church, the Holy Ghost, mysteries of God, commentary of the Gospels and Old Testament, as well as funeral orations.

This 1567 Basel edition of the works of Saint Ambrose was collected and edited by Erasmus of Rotterdam and John Costerius – an impressive and rare 16^th-century folio!
