Known as one of the English Lake Poets, Samuel Taylor Coleridge was one of the most notable 19^th-century English romance poets. Coleridge’s longest poem was ‘The Rime of the Ancient Mariner’. This poem was one of the most important poems written at the end of the 18^th-century, as it was known to begin the shift from the Romantic period into the Modern period of English poetry. It describes the sea voyages of a sailor who experienced dangers, adventures, and even supernatural encounters!

This edition was illustrated by famous French artist, Gustave Doré, known for his incredible woodcut engravings. Doré’s romantic style of illustration, supremely imaginative and richly detailed, was ideally suited to literary subjects.
