Adriano Castellesi was a 15th-century Italian author who is best remembered for his views of philosophy with regard to scripture. In his book ‘De Vera Philosophia’, Castellesi continually praises scripture as the ‘true philosophy’. (Backus, p.500). While not his initial purpose, Castellesi inadvertently created a primer on the early Church Fathers – specifically Augustine, Ambrose, Jerome and Gregory I – and the basic elements of Christian faith (Backus). According to Tafuri, Castellesi’s position is reminiscent of the doctrines of Duns Scotus and was written as an attack on metaphysics. (Gill, 24)

This exceedingly rare first edition of Castellesi was published in Bologna in 1507.
