In 1520, Wilhelm IV had hopes of modernizing and consolidating the legal system in Bavaria. He did so by adjusting the roles of government officials, standardizing criminal law procedure, and adopting the principles of ancient Roman law. These orders, known as the Judicial Orders of 1520, helped establish the modernization of law in not only Bavaria, but in Western Europe as a whole.

 

This impressive undated first edition of “Gerichtzordnung im Bayrn” was published in Munich and features the original, decorative half-vellum binding!
