“Human it is to have compassion on the unhappy”

― Giovanni Boccaccio

Giovanni Boccaccio was a 14th-century Italian poet and important humanist during the Renaissance. Following the popularity and successes of ‘The Decameron’ in 1351, Boccaccio wrote ‘Il Corbaccio’ a few years later – a story which never reached the fame of ‘The Decameron’. Still, the work is a prime example of 14th-century romanticism, following the story of a man yearning for the love a widow and his being haunted by Death in a dream.

This 1536 Italian edition, published under by the name ‘Labyrinth of Love’, was published in Venice, collected and edited by Pino de Rossi.
