A rare 16^th-century printing of works of John Chrysostom. Chrysostom was one of the most important Early Christian Church authors and preachers and is most remembered for his sermons and homilies. He preached on many different subjects, but his most frequented topic was helping the needy. Chrysostom calls for followers of Jesus to set aside their material desires to help the poor, often in a way that shamed the rich and guilted them in to giving.

“Do you pay such honor to your excrements as to receive them into a silver chamber-pot when another man made in the image of God is perishing in the cold?” (Chrysostom in Liebeschuetz)

One of his most important treatises was ‘On the Priesthood’ in which he describes his experiences becoming a priest and living as a priest. Interestingly, this work was popular during his lifetime as he made references to it in his other works.

This extremely rare 16^th-century edition of ‘On the Priesthood’ was published in Marburg, Germany and includes commentary of Germanus Brixius
