Unsure? Ask an Expert!

Pierre Rebuffi was a 16th-century French jurist who is best known for his commentary on the ‘Concordat of Bologna’. The famous Concordat was an agreement made between Francis I of France and Pope Leo X outlining privileges both to the Catholic Church and the French monarchy, most of which pertained to tithes and income collection.

Beginning in the 1520s, Rebuffi, along with many other political scholars and churchmen, questioned whether the Concordat actually kept France a Catholic nation during the height of the French Reformation. Rebuffi offered his views on it in his now famous commentary – a rare work of 16th-century jurisprudence.
