1548 Italian Renaissance 1ed Alamanni Poetry Girone il Cortese KNIGHTS Chivalry
Luigi Alamanni was a 16th-century Italian poet, and, to some, considered the greatest Italian poet for centuries based purely on the number of editions of his complete works. Much of his popularity was attributed to him being the first Italian poet to use blank verse in Italian poetry. One of his best works was his epic chivalric poem, “Girone il Cortese” – a work that follows the adventures of knight-king, Girone. Originally dedicated to Henry II of France, this work proved to be a highly influential book demonstrating 16th-century courtly love.
This 1548 first edition is considered to be highly valuable and is notable for its impressive, engraved title page.
