1589 1ed Guillaume Pepin Bible Sermons Catholic Rosary Imitation of Saints Venice
Guillaume Pepin was a late 15th-century Dominican friar and preacher. He gained his fame in the early 1500s from his published sermons, in many of which Pepin publicly attacked royalty and Francis I. Pepin himself said,
“Is royalty a holy thing? Who made it? The Devil, the people, and God: God, because nothing happens with his will; the devil, because he has breathed ambition and pride; the people because they have given themselves over to servitude.” (Pepin, Sermones de Destrucitone, 1518; from Farge)
Pepin was instrumental in spreading Marian piety and played a critical role in the development in the modern use of Rosary in Catholic traditions.
This 1589 first edition of the sermons of Pepin was published in Venice by Antoino Bertani, bound in impressive vellum.
