Johann Schneidewein was a 16^th-century German lawyer best-known for studying with Martin Luther. His magnum opus was a commentary on law institutions, “Institutionum Imperalium Justiniani”. In this work, Schneidewein discussed common law, canonic law, imperial recesses, court orders from the court of Charles V, codes of Protestant doctrine, and even Saxon law. Schneidewein never saw the work published during his lifetime, but it would see countless editions over the centuries, including this impressive folio printing from 1595. This particular edition contains edits from Pieter Brederode and Denis Godefroy.
