1631 Principatibus Italiae Italian Politics Elzevier Italy Laet Segetho Galileo
‘De Principatibus Italiae’ is a rare, early 17th-century work featuring a collection of important essays and treatises by notable authors Joannes de Laet and Thomas Segetho. Published by the famed Elzevier, this book features two main works:
- ‘Incerti Auctoris de Principibus Italiae Commentarius’
- ‘Tractatus de Territoriis, Potentia, Familiis, Foederibus, Principum, Rerumpublicarum…’
Both of these works are studies and observations on the Italian government and politics. (Shahan). It should be noted, that while Segetho was not the most famous of English scholars, he was a skilled poet and pupil of Galileo. He is probably best remembered for comparing Christopher Columbus and Galileo saying how much greater Galileo was because he ‘gave us new worlds without any damage to anybody!’.
