Jacobus Eyndius was an early 17^th-century Dutch scholar best known for his book ‘Chronici Zelandiae’. Also known as Eynde, Eyndius distinguished himself from other scholars by his plethora of fields of study – poetry, military history, science, and of course his chronicles. However, none of his works were ever as popular or famous as ‘Chronici’.

‘Chronici Zelandiae’ was a Latin chronicle of the Dutch province of Zeeland – the very first of its kind. And even if though it was the first, scholars say it is “the one most worth reading” (Van der Aa). This work deals with the origins and antiquities of Zeeland, as well as debunking myths of Dutch culture, royals, and nobles. Sadly, this book never saw publishing until many years after Eyndius’s death. This 1634 features a stunning engraved title page, a portrait of Eyndius, Greek poetry, and a beautiful vellum binding!
