- This coat of arms bears many resemblances to that of the Talon family (the chevron, with 3 ears of corn/wheat supported by rising crescents). The family is remembered for being venerated jurists as well as noted bibliophiles, with a library composed predominantly of works on jurisprudence and philosophy. This particular bookplate might belong to Denis Talon (1628–1698), a French jurist who had a large part in the drafting of the Louis XIV Ordinances. At his death, he was the président à mortier of Paris, which was one of the most important legal posts of the French Ancien Régime. The présidents were principal magistrates of the highest juridical institutions, the parlements (i.e., the appeal courts).
