Johann Hottinger’s “Juris Hebraorum Leges” is a rare 17^th-century commentary on Hebrew Law. In the 13^th-century, Spanish rabbi Aaron ha-Levi wrote what is considered to be the first written instruction to medieval Jews, the ‘Sefer ha Chinuch’. Aaron ha-Levi wrote on moral precepts and biblical law – a tradition which was used in the Hebrew world for centuries. Hottinger used Aaron’s lessons as the basis for this work, a work which covers countless topics of Hebrew and Jewish law, including commentary on the 613 commandments and 261 precepts examined in Aaron’s “Sefer ha Chinuch”.
