François de Beauchasteau was a 17th-century French poet who is best remembered for his collection of poems, sonnets, madrigals, and songs. These poems were made famous in 1657, when Beauchasteau who was 12 years old at the time, presented these poems to the King. They were shortly, thereafter, published under the title ‘La Lyre du Jeune Apollon’ harkening the young poet’s work to that of the Muses of Apollo.

This first edition opens with dozens of works of other authors and poets who praised the young poet for his prodigy. In addition to the works of song and poetry, this book includes portrait engravings representative of notable political figures, including one of Christine, Queen of Sweden.
