1658 Martini on CHINA 1ed Chinese Language Jesuit Qin HAN Dynasty VERY RARE
Martino Martini was a 17th-century Italian historian who served as a Jesuit missionary in China. While living in China, Martini began working on an extensive history of China and Eastern Asia focusing on the earliest known times in China through the birth of Christ. “Sinicae Historiae decas prima” was one of the first recorded descriptions of Chinese language characters in Europe. Martini had hoped to complete this history into the 17th-century; however, the first volume was the only one that was written. Note the in-text illustrations and charts.
