1664 BIBLE Dictionary Greek & Latin ELZEVIER Schotanus Georg Pasor New Testament

A rare Elzevier printing of Georg Pasor’s New Testament dictionary and thesaurus. Pasor was well-known for his numerous works on language and grammar but none are prominent as this one on the New Testament. First appearing in 1619, his ‘Lexicon Graeco-Latinum’ would see several editions from several cities of the next few decades.

This 1664 edition was edited by Schotanus and published in Amsterdam; which vary from those published elsewhere. According to Willems,

“the editions of Pasor’s handbook published by Elzeviers in Amsterdam differ from those of Elzevier of Leiden, in that Schotanus enriched the vocabulary of the New Testament of all the words that are met in the Greek versions of the Bible.”

This printing features an illustrated engraved title page, which is expected among Elzevier printings, and is a reimpression of the 1654 printing. (Willems 1328)
