Pierre Moyne’s “Saint Louys” is a rare 17^th-century account of the 13^th-century French king, Louis IX. Also known as Saint Louis, Louis IX was known for leading the Seventh and Eighth Crusades, though he died during the Siege of Tunis. Moyne’s charming history includes descriptions of these crusades, but also his Catholic reforms and his role in the Treaty of Paris.

This particular edition is notable for the exquisite full-page engravings featuring views of allegorical battle scenes. The scene for a soldier fighting a dragon is especially curious!
