George Sandys was a 16th– and early 17th-century traveler who spent time in Italy, Turkey, and Palestine.
“Sandys travelled to the Levant in 1610, spending a year in Turkey, Palestine and Egypt. His observations first appeared in 1615 and his text was soon regarded as a special authority on the Levant. Sandys was also interested in colonial promotion and was one of the undertakers of the third charter of the Virginia company in 1611.” (Blackmer 297)
This work also describes the islands of Cyprus, Crete, Malta, Sicily, and the Aeolians; as well as Rome, Naples, Venice, Syracuse, and a good description of Jews in Jerusalem
