Jean de Gassion was a 17^th-century Marshal of France who is best known for his role in the Thirty Years’ War and the Battle of Rocroi and his death in the Battle of Lens. Author Michel de Pure published one of the best accounts of the life of Gassion – a work which focused not only on the famed French battles, but also Gassion’s diplomacy with military leaders, political councils, and perhaps most importantly kings Louis XIIII and Louis XIV.

This four-volume first edition was published in 1673.
