Gilbert Burnet was an important 17th-century Scottish historian whose works were highly influential and have remained important references into the 20th-century. His works focused primarily on the history events of the Reformation and the English Civil War; however, he also wrote a lesser-known work on the lives and memoires of the Dukes of Hamilton. James and William Hamilton were Scottish nobles who led successful campaigns during the Thirty Years’ War.
