Antoine Varillas was a French historiographer who is remembered for his numerous historical accounts of European royals and noble families. Perhaps his most important book was his ‘Anecdotes of Florence’, a history of the secrets of the House of Medici and their influence in Florence.

This 1685 first edition of Varillas is bound with a 1707 printing of Bernard de Fontenelle’s “History of Oracles”. First published in 1687, this book was written with significant controversy focusing primarily on the supernatural abilities of oracles both before and after the birth of Jesus.
