Simon Foucher was a 17^th-century French philosopher who was skeptical of extremes theology. He wrote numerous dissertations on searching for truths, Chinese philosophies of Confucius, and responses to philosophies of Descartes.

This 1686 first edition book by Foucher is his well-known ‘Treaty on Hygrometers.’ In it, Foucher describes methods for finding and indicating humidity levels through the uses of changes sheepskin measures. He also describes varying methods and inventions used to measure gases and vapors, and atmospheric pressure. There is also an important account of the invention of the hygrometer by Robert Boyle.
