Paolo Sarpi was a 16^th-century Italian historian who is best known for his book ‘History of the Council of Trent’. First published in 1619, this book focused on the administrative institutions of the Holy See, mainly the Roman Curia. And while the book was written to discuss the Catholic Church, it was mainly read by Protestants. In fact, British historian Denys Hay call it a “kind of Anglican picture of the debates and decisions” of the Catholic church.

Worth noting, Paolo Sarpi was a friend and scientific correspondent with Galileo Galilei.
