Jacob Alting was a 17^th-century Dutch philologist who studied oriental languages, most notably Hebrew. His book “Fundamenta Punctationis Linguae Sanctae” is a collection of Semitic grammars covering synopses, translations, and usage in theology and holy texts. Alting, along with fellow Dutch scholar Georg Otho, greatly contributed to the development of oriental language study in the Netherlands, much in part to this work. In addition to Hebrew and Latin, this book includes notes in Samaritan, Rabbinic, Arabic, Ethiopic, and Persian languages.

This impressive 1686 first edition is bound with his synopsis of Chaldean and Syrian dialects.
