A rare 17th-century German-Latin dictionary.

 

Written by 16th-century Swiss theologian Johannes Fries, or Frisius, this book includes two sections including a German to Latin text and the vise-versa Latin to German. Frisius was known for his connection to Ulrich Zwingli during the Protestant Reformation, both of whom lived in Zurich. It was during this time that Frisius contributed to the translations of the Zurich Bible which prompted the publishing of his German-Latin dictionary in 1541.

 

While other similar dictionaries exist, few are as charming as this 1690 example. This tome features a beautiful four-ribbed leather binding and marbled boards.
