1691 1ed Maurice Diocesan Episcopacy Anglican Bishops Great Ejection Act 1662
In late 17th-century England, numerous Protestant and Anglican ministers began publishing books in response to the Great (minister) Ejection Act of 1662. David Clarkson and Welsh minister Henry Maurice were two such names. Maurice’s “Defence of Diocesan Episcopacy” was a direct response to Clarkson’s “Primitive Episcopacy” both of which argued over which powers and jurisdictions bishops should have.
