Evaristo Gherardi was a 17th-century Italian actor who is best known for his acting and playwright career in France in the 1670s. He edited and collected several scenes from various plays from Italian theater which were performed in French – most of which are from the Commedia dell’Arte. Note the engraving of a burlesque harlequin as the frontispiece of his 1695 edition.
