Barthelemy Linand was a 17^th-century French physician who is primarily remembered for his studies in mineral waters. In 1696, Linand published his research on the mineral waters found in the springs of Forges-les-Eaux in Normandy, France. Because of his background in medicine, Linand recommend the use of these mineral waters as a form of therapy and healing for various diseases and pains.

The original essay was rather short. However, the following year, Linand published an expanded edition that not only furthered the medicinal properties of the mineral waters at Forges-les-Eaux, but also contained descriptions of the topographical surroundings of the springs. This example is the more impressive and desirable 1697 edition, complete with the folding map of the springs!
