“Go tell the King of England, go tell him thus from me, though he reigns king o’er all the land, I will reign king at sea!”

– Exquemelin, History of the Buccaneers

An incredible History of Pirates and Buccaneers of the Caribbean by Exquemelin, complete with illustrations! This book of sea adventures talks of shipwrecks, sea battles, and Spanish buccaneers in the Americas, Indies, and South Sea. In 1666, Exquemelin set sail toward the Antilles when his ship was attacked by pirates headed for Tortuga. He, himself, eventually became a pirate and participated in raids and lootings.

This incredible first French edition describes many of Exquemelin’s stories and includes highly desirable illustrations of maps and scenes of sailing. Augmented and edited by Journel, this book is known to be responsible for colloquializing the term ‘buccaneer’.
